A later design corrected the space, approaching the capacity of the original building and removed the open garden.

Much of the building height should be to a large outdoor structure, a lattice of steel placed above the roof of the tower, where they would place wind turbines and some “open gardens”. The low height in this design was imposed by Sliverstein, who expressed concern about another terrorist attack or other incident and the high degree of responsibility that would entail. In April 2006, after several months of negotiations to allow the reconstruction began, Silverstein ceded some of their rights to the Port Authority of the city, but got to be granted architect change to reform and carry out the project going to take over the same architect David Childs in SOM Architects.Ĭriticism of the project submitted by Lebeskind disapproved the few floors dedicated to offices and other services, only 82 habitable floors, 280.000m2 reducing the space available to the World Trade Center. Because we were hiking fairly late, we planned ahead and brought a warm jacket, hat, gloves, a headlamp and a spare, just in case, which was a solid move as we needed all of the above by the time we got down. We ran into a little snow as well so plan accordingly. Rainy Lake to our right was a deep blue surprise. Amazing. Continuing downhill (and fairly steeply at times) views continue to be mind-blowing. We can't say enough about the views in this region between Heather Pass and beginning the descent down Maple Pass.

We continued on for a bit (just until the next upward stretch) and had a llittle picnic to power us throught the next half of the trek. We saw all manner of birds and one of the fattest marmots we've seen to date. You'll see a sign noting that you've reached the boundary of the North Cascades National Park and the views are breath-taking. Wind your way through larch and more amazing views as you reach the ridgeline, continuing left and towards Maple Pass. This part of the hike delivers amazing views of Lake Ann as you head upward passing meadows of heather, grasses and late summer wildflowers. Pass the turnoff toward Lake Ann after around 1.25 miles, heading along Heather Pass. We hiked this trail counter-clockwise hoping to grab photos of Lake Ann and the "top" during the golden hour, and we timed it just right.
